An effluent water stream from a small business in England is tested to see the extent of pollution. Your first day at work and your expertise in water pollution management is needed. What water quality analysis would you suggest for the company’s effluent (small scale manufacturing process and 20 employers) and what pollution will the different analysis be probing? Furthermore, what body or legal agency in the UK would you register the information to? (20 marks) Give example of acceptable levels of pollution to aim for and justify your answer

Describe the mechanism with both descriptive text and drawings (20 marks)

Examine the British Petroleum, BP, oil disaster in the Mexican Gulf 2010, where > 200 million gallon crude oil was spilled over an 87 days period.  Explain the principle of each different physical oil spill treatment that was used in the accident. (20 marks)

For this type of off-shore accidents there will be an initial period of natural treatment to consider. Describe these natural treatments that can be beneficial in oil rich areas like the Mexican Gulf. Which one/ones will be less beneficial in the North Sea?
