Question:
Certainly a topical subject. However, there is a presumption in the title that employees are suffering low satisfaction and degraded working conditions during Covid. Do you have empirical evidence of this? If not, it is best to make your title more neutral and use your research to gather the evidence. This would also make your title less descriptive, perhaps: ‘Changes in working conditions and employee satisfaction during the Covid-19 pandemic in the UK hotel industry’?
You would need to decide which time period exactly, you were researching and bear in mind that Covid restrictions may have finished when you do your research, so workers may be relieved and happier than they are now.
How will you research this? You can aim for a large number of respondents through a survey or more in-depth insights through qualitative research with a smaller number of respondents. How will get be able to recruit respondents?
This is definitely a valid topic and has the potential to be an original piece of research, but will need careful planning.
Glad you have changed the title in response to feedback.
Reasonable Aim and Objectives, but can you change the word ‘address’ for another, eg ascertain/ assess/study/investigate/research?
You will need to define who are ’employees’. Will you include people who have been ‘furloughed’ ie whose job has been suspended who are paid a proportion of their wages through Government funding? They are still employed, but not working.
The methods of data collection now need to be fleshed out more. It would seem sensible to use a survey of staff and interviews for managers. How will you know/find out about the situation before Covid-19? When you start this research, it is likely that conditions will almost be back to normal, so how can your findings be useful in the future?
How fixed are you about doing this at Marriotts? You are unlikely to get permission to survey to staff. It might be more fruitful to compare the experiences of people working in different types of hotel, and qualitative interviews then might be more appropriate. You could also use the website for data. It might be useful to draw up a timeline of the changes in conditions.
