Of course, the gig economy has a dark side as well. People work much harder and end up making very little money, with very few protections. Companies like Uber have also represented themselves as champions of environmental sustainability. However, Uber has been associated with severe breaches of ethics, in the area of workplace harassment. It led to the ouster of their CEO Trevor Kalanick in June 2017. For this assignment, imagine yourself a consultant. Please write a memo to the new CEO of Uber where you suggest how they can use the idea of a disruptive technology to improve their operations, while simultaneously addressing issues of ethics and sustainability. Your essay should contain the following: One table and one graph (use your imagination to develop it). One reference from a scholarly source (i.e. not just a website). One suggestion each relating to financial performance, sustainability and ethics. A brief evaluation of Kalanick’s leadership style.
