Requirements (20 Points Each) – You may choose the specific topic for each, but not the one you used last time in the class discussions. The points for each paper will be distributed as follows:
• 5 – points – Since you do not have three students to reply to for this assignment and, since the original requirements stated that the minimum number of words for each main post and three replies is 100 words, each post must be a minimum 400 of your own words for each topic. Quotes from each reference must be added, but do not count in the number of your own words. You may make your post as long as you like, however, if you are below the minimum of 400 of your own words, you will lose points as follows:
• 400 minimum text focused on the topic (plus quotes) – 5 points
• 350 to 399 words of substantive text (plus quotes) or 400 words of text and no quotes – 4 points
• 300 to 349 words of substantive text (plus quotes) or 350 words of text and no quotes – 3 points
• 250 to 299 words of substantive text (plus quotes) or 350 words of text and no quotes – 2 points
• 200 to 249 words of substantive text (plus quotes) or 350 words of text and no quotes – 1 points
• 5 – points – Two paragraphs must introduce the topic you chose and explain how the topic relates to mathematics
• Two paragraphs (minimum of 5 sentences each) introducing the chosen topic, plus an explanation of how it relates to mathematics – 5 points

• One paragraph (minimum of 5 sentences) introducing the chosen topic, plus an explanation of how it relates to mathematics – 3 points
• One paragraph (minimum of 5 sentences) introducing the chosen topic, no explanation of how it relates to mathematics – 2 points
• One paragraph (minimum of 4 sentences) either introducing the chosen topic or an explanation of how it relates to mathematics – 1 points
• 2 – points – One paragraph must discuss how the topic relates to your life experiences, how you use this concept, or how you could use the topic in the future
• One paragraph (minimum of 5 sentences) – 2 points
• One paragraph (minimum of 3 sentences) – 1 point
• 8 – points – Include four different website links to mathematical ideas that directly address your topic. These correspond to the four links that were required in your class for the main post and each of your three replies. You will watch/read/review these website links and, in a minimum of four sentences each, you must include what you learned about the mathematics and the topic.
• Website link to the discussion topic – 1 point (up to 4 points; one for each qualifying website link)
• Discussion of what you learned from that website link – 1 point (up to 4 points; one for each discussion regarding what you both gained and what you want to share that is contained in the link)
• Discussion 2.1
• Center and Spread of the Quantitative Data – Collect 10-20 pieces of quantitative data and find the mean, variance, standard deviation, and five number summary. Explain the importance of this data, what you find interesting about the data, and why the public should know. Ask a question like, “On the average, how many hours are you on the computer each week?” or “On the average, how many e-mails do you get each week from all of your mailboxes combined?” or “How many miles do you drive to work?” or “How many pets do you have?” or “How many ‘friends’ do you have in Facebook and LinkedIn combined?” Describe the population and sample. Then graph the data (dotplot, stemplot, histogram, frequency polygon, scatterplot, time series graph, pie graph, and Pareto chart).
