What to do for the first assessment: 1. Create the Small Business Profile by choosing an SME business/company from any country in the tropics in Asia. This may be existing small-medium sized business in Singapore or another country in the tropics in Asia. 2. The description of your business profile should be at least one page long and should include the following: – Name of SME business – Location (specific city and area if possible) – Type of industry (e.g. restaurants, travel, retail, services etc), – Number of staff employed – what kinds of positions are they employed for – Some information about the specific city and/or area chosen: economic (e.g. is this a middle income the region, is it well serviced by different restaurants or infrastructure), social environmental information (what kinds of competition might you faced in this area if there are many restaurants for e.g. in this region) and any other information about the location that can shed light on your chosen small business company. 3. Next select two (2) topics from the list provided which are drawn from lectures 2-5 inclusive. For each of the chosen topic, you are to write about 350 words explaining how you can best apply the topic to your business in order for it to achieve sustainable success. For each topic chosen, you 11 need to use at least two reliable references (e.g. journal article, newspaper article, industry information from the website) to support your reasoning. 4. How to go about using your chosen topics : a. STATE: the specific theory concept approach that is required i.e. outline the chosen topic b. EXPLAIN: give a comprehensive explanation of that concept and theory based on what is covered in the lecture/textbook. You can supplement the definition with further research after using the definition given in the lecture/textbook. c. ILLUSTRATE: demonstrate comprehension & analysis of the chosen topic to your business profile – that is, how can you use the chosen topic in relation to your chosen topic. 5. You’ll need to use a minimum of TWO (2) references per topic using APA referencing format in the Reference list box.
