Answer
Interpretation and analysis of dreams
A thousand thoughts run around our head while awake, like a kaleidoscope of different colours, blending into one another constantly (Mouillot). Our subconscious mind is like a pensive of all the thoughts that run around in our head, some segregated and some bound together, dreams are like messages from the very subconscious of our minds, trying to convey in the sleep what our waking eyes cannot see (Freud). Dreams can be very different from one another, some can be very mundane, bland and uneventful and some can be vivid and dynamic, however each carries a symbol that has a specific message for us to grasp (Gackenbach and LaBerge).
I have always had vivid dreams, some colourful some haunting, but dynamic nonetheless. However each of my dreams had something common, some grounding factor, some familiarity to them, restlessness. In my dreams I am always approaching something, on the lookout for something I cannot reach. In this essay, I discuss in detail three of my symbolic dreams, that have given me an insight and attempt to determine what meaning they might hold to them.
The first dream I would like to discuss is of me exploring a forest, it is a starry night and I am walking through a canopy of trees, the cool breeze to my face, hair flying everywhere. I do not know what I am running for and neither do I get the feeling of fear or terror in my subconscious, if anything I feel quite peaceful yet excited. Studies suggest that the symbol to dreaming of forests is of being uncertain of future, being ridden with the fear of unknown, still with a hunger to feel it, however I never felt any fear or anxiety in the dream (Cassorla).
The second dream I would like to elaborate is where I am sitting idle in my room and I suddenly quite unceremoniously get up searching for something and I am not able to find it. I am ripping the room apart, searching every nook and cranny, and I still cannot find it. I am angered and frustrated and panting in the dream but no matter how hard I try I cannot begin to decipher what it was that I was so frantically looking for and as I wake out of breath, half of the entire day ahead is spent by me being grumpy and edgy for no plausible reason. Studies suggest, that searching for something in a dream can be symbolic to inner insecurities, as our waking thoughts are raided by thousand inadequacies that we find in ourselves is reflected onto restless searching in the dreams (Dream Symbol Meaning).
The third and last dream of mine in this discussion is the most uncanny and most bizarre dream of mine. In this dream I am sitting on the rooftop of a high rise building, looking out at the cloudy skies watching the cold and stormy high winds wrecking havoc beneath me and very surprisingly, I find comfort as the cold wind brushes my face in a caress, I find myself to be peaceful and calm while sitting on the very edge of the rooftop. Suddenly, I am pushed from the edge and I fall headfirst towards the asphalt that I can so clearly see in the dream, feel the wind rushing past me, cold and unforgiving, and as I fall I can almost feel the impact when I wake startled and sweaty. A dream of falling can be symbolic to insecurities and anxiety. It is the most common dream in the world and hints at the fear of failure after an unexpected success (Dictionary of dreams).
My journal entry of dreams that I like to keep suggest that the last dream I discussed has been mentioned quite a lot of times. I cannot help but wonder if there is a message hidden in it that my subconscious wants me to find. It might just be the message from my own better judgment asking me to overcome my anxiety and insecurity and make the most of everyday.
The common thread to all three of my dreams is the insecurity and anxiety that I tend to experience in my life. I have always aspired to have a successful career and dreamt myself to be financially secure, as I progress towards taking the first steps in my career, I am swamped by the fear and uncertainty.  I am terrified of what may come my way if i take one wrong step and how that will impact my future. However, these dreams have given me a profound knowledge about myself and I will attempt to work on my mounting insecurities so that I can put the best foot forward and excel in my career so that when the time comes I can help others to overcome their fear as a professional in the field of psychology.
