Instructions Now that you have completed a handout and some reflection activities, Greg wants you to share what you’ve learned through conversations and presentations. People at both organizations are interested in learning how to best approach this new partnership and why cultural competence is so central to the process. 1. In preparation for your different conversations and presentation, complete the Verbal and Nonverbal Communication Reflection Guide to build your ability to interpret verbal and nonverbal communication. This will help you gauge – reactions to what you are saying (already completed – attached) 2. In addition to considering how you communicate, it is important to consider the different contexts in which you will be speaking. Greg has asked you to discuss your findings and recommendations in three different contexts: one-on-one with him, casually with colleagues at the office, and in front of the SNA board of directors. In a set of notes for Greg Gears, address the following concerns for each of the three different contexts: – Who the audience is and what they’ll expect – The direction of the communication (upward, horizontal, external) – What type of presentation you are giving (formal, casual, personal, timed) – What you will do to tailor your talking points to each audience 3. Record yourself speaking ( only need 3 scripts for recording based on the request in #2), in a manner appropriate to each of the three different contexts listed above, about cultural competence and this new partnership. These can be audio or video recordings. You will base your talking points on the materials you created previously. If possible, find a partner or a few partners to act as the other people in each context. Use appropriate methods of verbal and non-verbal communication, paying attention to pace and volume.
