Negotiation Of Nursing Conditions

Question:
Describe how belonging to a union or negotiating working conditions and remuneration might be in conflict with being a member of a profession.
Answer:
Canadian Nursing Training institutions are training an increasing number of nursing students while delivering the significant amount of registered nurses each year. As per the statistics each one out of 127 population of Canada is involved in a nursing occupation (College of Registered Nurses in British Columbia, 2017). At the same time, the quality of training and educating the nursing students should be elevated within the existing educational organisations. On the other hand, there are still considerable amount of vacant spaces in nursing profession in Canada. While having 268,512 nursing professionals Canada is also well recognised because of its number of bachelor nurses, which is almost 39% of total population of nursing staffs. British Colombia Nursing Union or BCNU aimed to protect the healthy life and well being of all nursing professionals and trainees both socially and economically (British Columbia Nurses Union, 2014).
However, some issues are constantly hindering the potential growth of the union of nursing students and professionals in Canada. One of the major points behind the negotiation of nursing conditions is the low remuneration. Study showed that 48.5% nursing students are more interested to implement their occupational efficiency in other part of the world rather than their own country (Tencer, 2016). Rather than “The constant increase of the need for Canadian nurses” as focused in the previous post, lack of remuneration of nursing staffs in nationalised healthcare sectors are causing the issues. Along with the facts of collective bargaining, it has been also found that the number of total nursing associates is 12.8% lower than the average while most of them are obtaining for part time job (Canadian Nurses Association, 2010). If I have to consider my experiences, I can say that the number of nursing professional of age 35 to 40 is considerably higher than the nurses who are 20 to 30 years of old. It clearly shows that the new generation nursing students is not interested to work in government or government undertaking organisation. As an example, Montreal was experiencing gridlock at their emergency rooms after the decreasing costs by provincial government through integrating a number of hospitals and reducing staff, the Gazette. This type of situation can increase due to the lack of employee satisfaction and facility coverage.
Collage for Registered Nurses in British Columbia (CRNBC) always tries to maintain the quality of enrolment, registration and education procedure higher than the average standards of nursing organisations globally. As a student and nursing professional I can say that the remodeling the minor attributes that causing the discussed situations, can change the entire growth rate and quality of nursing union in Canada. However, the condition of Canadian nursing education and professionalism is not comparable to the nursing care and “nursing training process of France” or other European countries. It is also true that “CRNBC and BCNU both are advocating the nursing professionals” of the nation while keeping the goals in mind. The fact is both of this group observes and implement the strategic issues by their own way, while making some collaborative and cooperative approach is also important in this situation. Specifically for the vacancy in the existing nursing professions due to the 14% of yearly retirement, the number of new enrolment is not significantly higher. The average age of nursing professionals is increased by around 2% from 2000 to 2010 (Potter et al., 2014).
As per my opinion, the British Colombia Nursing Union can develop a new set of agenda to meet the expectation of the governing body while proposing some elevated remuneration structure for the part time as well as full time nursing staffs and registered nurses (RN). The situation that occurred in Manitoba also reminded the importance of satisfactory remuneration structure within this profession. I totally agree with the post mentioning the “suggestion of Health Minister Theresa Oswald in 2008”. The elevated remuneration structure can also attract the youth towards the nursing education and profession. However, beside all of that the positive news is in past five years the overall number of nurses in Ontario has grown by about 8,000 (Tencer, 2016). Along with strengthening the overall nursing service, this increment also requires lots of responsibilities from the regulatory authorities as well as the occupational unions in healthcare and nursing sectors.
From the Above discussion, it can be said that both BCNU and CRNBC aimed to protect the healthy life and well-being of all nursing professionals and trainees both socially and economically. At the same time, some issues such as lack of adequate remuneration, appraisal facilities are constantly hindering the potential growth of the union of nursing students and professionals in Canada. Throughout the whole discussion, the most essential point is that the condition of Canadian nursing education and professionalism is not comparable to the nursing care and “nursing training process of France” or other European countries. On the other hand many reports also suggest that rather than the constant increase of the need for Canadian nurses lack of remuneration of nursing staffs in nationalised healthcare sectors are causing the major issues in the existing environment of healthcare facilities and training centres. At the same time, the collective bargaining has been proven as the most effective way to change the whole situation while keeping the collaborative and cooperative procedure in mind. Although, there are some good news supporting the improvement of current situation of Canadian nursing training and healthcare services, the major obstacles should be removed from the path of glory.
