MHDD 150 Issues in Substance Abuse
You are a licensed alcohol and drug abuse counselor who has has been asked to consult with a committee from the Clark County School system. This group consists of business people, police, social workers, teachers, parents, administrators, and student representatives (Middle School, High School, and Community College). The group is interested in selecting and implementing an alcohol/drug prevention program for their school system. They want you to advise them on several factors.
For this assignment, you will develop a PowerPoint presentation that will educate the committee decision makers. The information contained within your presentation will help them make informed decisions about implementing an alcohol/drug prevention program. The PowerPoint must contain a minimum of 12 slides. The first slide should be a cover slide with your name on it and the last slide will have a minimum of five references that have been used throughout your presentation. The references should be in APA style (see links below). Remember, cutting and pasting or using someone else’s words is considered plagiarism. Paraphrase the information that you use in your presentation.
Based on the information that you have learned throughout the course you are to provide Clark County Schools the answers to the following questions.
Select one specific substance use disorder that they could expect to see within their school system. Explain how it is diagnosed and provide examples of how it is treated.
The committee has heard of “behavioral addictions,” but is uncertain what this means. Identify and explain what behavioral disorders.
Compare/contrast behavioral addictions with substance use disorders.
Explain the variables that develop and sustain substance use and behavioral addictions.
Identify at least one local and two national resources that would be helpful for people to understand addiction. Be sure to: describe the resource and its’ purpose, how it can helpful to an addict/family member, and how to contact the resource.
Remember your audience (school aged children) when creating this presentation. Be creative. Use images to add visual interest. Be sure to use correct grammar and spell check your presentation.
