In this project, groups examining the fundamental people and business management functions within a small to medium-sized enterprise.
While adhering to best-practices related to recruitment, selection, onboarding, and compensation; performance management is an area that manager’s need to be prepared for while leading a diverse workforce.
Students will review the underlying management functions that support effective business operations within the framework of federal and provincial employment law.
Within this project, groups will select from a list of HOT SEAT topics and will research and understand the steps of managing the issue effectively.
Groups (same group as Project Part A) are required to:
A) complete a Research Assignment on the issue selected from the topic list provided and approved by professor. Groups will use the “Project Part B template” which is located in the Major Project > Part B folder
B) Present their findings along with a role playing to the class during week 14
Presentation Requirements:
15 – 20 minutes allowed for role playing and Q&A. Loss of marks if you are over or under more than 2 minutes. See rubric on Brightpace.
Purpose of presentation is to be creative and present as subject matter expertson your topic.
Groups will complete the Project Part B Template and submit along with their Presentation files
Include a Role Playing of an effective way of planning ahead and/or dealing with the topic.
Teams are encouraged to pre-record (video) their role playing.
Team members are required to do a live introduction, overview, recommendations and handle Q&A
An agenda of your presentation must be displayed for all.
Teams are to illustrate a problematic scene
Teams must address both the legal and company concerns of this problematic scene
Teams will then illustrate the “correct” way to manage such a situation (this may be done in a professional presentation, discussion or role-play).
Marks will be awarded for teams who follow their written submission as well as gathered more information since. Use of all primary and secondary data, as well as reference to company policy will ensure full marks.
Marks for set up and starting on time with no technical glitches = practice and have a backup plan. The show MUST go on.
Be creative; think outside of the box in terms of tools, resources, and methods of presenting.
