Some studies on CSR reporting of Asian countries have suggested that Singapore has a relatively low level of CSR penetration despite it having the highest levels of economic and social development among the sampled countries, including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, etc. It has been argued that Singapore’s investment in areas such as education and environmental protection has removed “the need and stimulus for Singaporean companies to do so themselves”. Do you agree with this argument? Why or why not? What suggestions do you have for Singapore companies and government with regard to CSR practices?
