We have learned the importance of various key theories in economics and their relevance to several disciplines. We understand that there is a limited nature of society’s resources and ultimately economics is about how society manages it scarce resources.
This project will be assessed in two parts:
Part one: You will be required to produce a written report of 2500 words submitted through Turnitin and Hardcopy in Class.
Part two: You will also be required to prepare 10 minute presentation on the significant findings of your written report.
Task: As a way to demonstrate your understanding of economic models and its relevance to current realties, you are required to produce a research report as well as prepare a 10 minute presentation explaining the overall economic situation of a particular economy of your choice. This project can be conducted in peers or groups of no more than four members.
Guidelines for the research report:
1. The task is about demonstrating your ability to understand and apply economic concepts to a real life economy by putting together a report on the overall economic situation of the country of your choice.
2. Please ensure the report you submit covers the following
a. A brief background of your country ( do not select a middle eastern country)
Here I expect you to write a brief introduction about the history of the country including historical events or political events that
could have shaped the country it has become today. Remember to do some background research.
b. Include a critical analysis of the following categories:
i. Geography
ii. People and Society
iii. Government
iv. Economy
v. You are also welcome to include any other necessary categories that you think are noteworthy.
I am really seeking here your ability to understand and interpret what certain numbers represent for an economy e.g. if the GDP growth rate of UAE is 7.2% what does this tell us? In addition, I expect you to think critically by making sure you also put your findings into perspective by thinking about the bigger picture how one category may relate to another.
c. Referencing. You will be expected to use the WORLD FACT BOOK (as instructed below) as your primary source of data information however; you are also expected to conduct background research of your own. You are required to include at least 6 other appropriate APA reference literature to support events or statements throughout report.
