Introduction
Resource Dependency Theory is the overall study of the analysis of the usage of the external resources of the different organizations in affecting the behavior of the organization. Moreover, the main ability of the survival of the different organizations is to maintain and acquire the different resources in an effective manner. However, the task is bit problematic in nature as there is scarcity of the different resources along with the uncertainty.
Importance of Resource Dependency for Managers and Board Members in Non-Profit Organizations
In the current business environment, this can be identified that the different non-profit organizations are facing increase type of pressure from the different stakeholders in achieving the different objectives and this helps them in delivering value to the entire society in an effective manner.
Maier, Meyer and Steinbereithner (2016), has commented that the survival of the different NPOs is conditional to the acquisition along with the proper maintenance of the different resources which are critical for the success of the organization. NPOs highly operate in the environment of the uncertainty of the resources and this is the major reason they heavily depend on the corporate partners to generate the different resources which is necessary to achieve the outcomes effectively.
Prasad, Zakaria and Altay (2018), has commented that there are different negative impacts of the individual contributions towards the generation of the revenue strategies for NPOs. There is huge unpredictability along with instability of the different individual contributions towards the NPOs and this can be identified that these non-profit organizations still had to be braced for the different fluctuations for the major amount of funding as there is violation of the different resources in an ineffective manner for the different individual contributions.
However, Raffo, Clark and Arik (2016), has commented that these kind of individual contributions play a vital role and this is of huge importance for the managers and the different board members which will be beneficial for their personal funding. Seo (2011), has opined that the resource dependency is effecting the NPOs in a negative manner; however, the managers and the different board members tries in facilitating the solicitation of the different corporate gifts and this reinforced the entire process and the changes in the structure.
Moreover, this can be identified that the managers mainly focus on the different external resources as the availability of such kind of resources is helpful in managing the overall stability of the NPOs in an effective manner. With the proper resource dependency theory, this will be beneficial for the NPOs in maximizing their power as this helps in building redundancy into the acquisition of the different resources which will be reducing the reliance of the NPOs towards a single source of suppliers.
Von Schnurbein and Fritz, (2017), have opined that the resource dependence does not influence the effectiveness in a direct manner; however, the social and organizational related objectives mediate the link effectively. Additionally, the NPOs are operating in the competitive environment wherein there are major competitors who are entering into it and there is a situation which is created that makes NPOs highly dependent on the different corporate resources along with partners to make their condition stable in nature.
On the other hand, Verschuere and De Corte (2014), has hypothesized that the different private contributions which is inclusive of the corporate and individual donations along with foundation kinds of grants helps in becoming the traditional kind of cornerstone which is effective in nature in sourcing along with funding which will act as the resource dependency aspect in the NPOs. The study has contributed to the rapidly growing body of the overall empirical work which is regarding the corporate alliances of NPOs. The resource dependency aspects have been taken into consideration which will be effective in nature in managing the overall stability of the firm in a positive manner.
Conclusion
Therefore, this can be concluded that the resource dependency has different kinds of advantages for the different managers along with the board members of the organization in an appropriate manner. With the implementation of the same, this helps in concerning regarding the how the organizational behavior has been affected by the different external kinds of resources of the organization in an effectual manner.
As the different NPOs strive to reduce the overall vulnerability to uncertainties of the income along with the overall influence of the resource providers, the managers along with the board members of non-profit organizations try to shift their focus from one single supplier to the large and multiple suppliers in the organization and in the entire competitive market as well.
