From the very beginning, UPS has been the early adopter of the innovative technologies. The introduced the electric vehicles in the early 30s. Currently, the operate one of the most popular and large alternative fuel with fleets of advanced technology. This has been made up of about 8000 vehicles of low-emissions. From 2000, these two have logged about more than one billions of miles in various developing countries. Their future has been relying in their capability in meeting the rising demand for the global trade. This also includes the decrease in their influence on environment (Watson, 2014). Thus, UPS has been putting innovation of sustainability into action, throughout the globe.
2.The roles of boundary-spanning have been more specifically the managerial activities. The programs that have been linking any company with the effective forces in external environment are also considered under those roles. At least two methods have been learnt from the case that helped in recognizing in which the UPS has been engaged in the activities of boundary-spanning. First of all, the participation of UPS in the “White House’s National Clean Fleets Partnership” created a beneficial interaction ongoing. This has been with the effective energy regulators in legal-political dimension of general environment.
Secondly, the UPS has been testing and collecting data regarding technologies of alternative fuel. UPS has not been aware of the technologies of alternate energies such as bio-fuel, natural gas and so on. The managers have been testing the popular technologies. They have been further going for aligning UPS with those kinds of energy that have possesses the highest benefit in the marketplace.
3.The “sustainability” has been denoting the economic development generating handsome economy. They have been meeting the perquisites also. The CSR or “corporate social responsibility” has been the obligation of the managers in making choices and taking actions regarding contribution to the interests and welfare of both the society and the organization. The initiative of clean fleet of UPS has been illustrating CSR and sustainability in various significant approaches (Gilroy, 2017). One method through which this has been done by moving towards the vehicles of natural gas-fueled. The managers like Scott Wicker, Mike Britt have been updating the fleet of UPS in the manner that have been helping the base-line and decreasing the environmental influence.
