What extent do focus groups, used as a stand-alone method, enable a comprehensive response to the following question: ‘Are there distinctive driving cultures associated with young people in Western Sydney?’  Info – Whatever role you take on will help you complete the portfolio exercise (if you choose to do the one for this week) as it requires you to reflect on the in-class experience. If you are an observer ( I was the observer ) in class Your task is to complete the set readings and lecture pods and to pay particular attention to the claims made (in Tonkiss’s chapter) about the uses and usefulness of focus group data. You need to identify a few key points made in the readings and pods that will guide our class review of the focus group. You should also be able to generate your own responses to those points based on your observations of the focus group in progress. So your task is very interactive reading and observing. You are not just sitting there and watching on the day. You will be expected to have your key points noted down and ready to refer back to as you observe, and also to share with your peers in the class discussion. Answer the following question (in approx 400 words):   If you argue that focus groups need to be utilised in conjunction with another method(s) explain your position. In developing your response you should draw on your experience of the in-class focus group and subsequent discussion.
