1.1.1 Critically appraise a minimum of two career theories you have been exposed to on this course.
1.2 Identify what your top 5 strengths are (using Gallup Strengths Finder) and explain what these mean. 1.3 Reflect on how you can apply your strengths to develop your confidence in achieving your career aspirations. LO1 & LO2
 
2. 2.1 Identify your sector and analyse any associated professional standards that could be beneficial for you to be successful.
2.2 Discuss how you plan to acquire these recognised professional standards and illustrate how they would add value to an employer and make you the preferred candidate in an interview.
2.2 Reflect on your own current skill set in relation to those professional standards with a focus on the requirements around: – communication – team working – learning and development – digital skills LO3
 
3. 3.1 Identify a job description within your sector that you would like to apply for when you graduate. 3.2 How do the skills outlined on your CV, LinkedIn profile relate to the desired and essential skills for your desired title?
3.3 Reflect on your ability to apply the STAR structure in the interview process, and on any feedback, you received. 

Answer:

I love fixing things, operating equipment and building things using my hands. That is the reason why I have chosen to work in the field of electrotechnology as an electrician. My choice of professional is based on my childhood hobbies. My Gallop Strengths further support this; Restorative, Futuristic, Connectedness, Strategic, and Command.  When it comes to choosing a career my decision was based on the realistic personality as stipulated in the John Holland’s theory which outlines the six personalities for determining a career as realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising and conventional (Agha, 2001, p. 400).
To succeed as an electrician in the field of Electrotechnology, I have acquired the following skills through training, education, and development.
Communication skills are important because they help me in facilitating harmonious and productive when relating to customers and other employees. Equipping myself with communication skills would help me in a variety of ways. First, improve my listening understanding and listening skills. Two, speaking directly and clearly. Three, negotiating responsively. Four, applying numerical effectively. Five, understanding both the internal and external needs of the customers. Six, writing and speaking in more than languages apart from English (Rose, 2008, p. 64).
Teamwork which would help in a productive working relationship and results. I have established myself with adequate skills to relate with people of different ages despite their race, gender, political persuasion, and religion. I have also learned the best ways of handling different situations while working with different people. Lastly, I have learned that the best way of building teamwork is through identifying the strengths and weaknesses possessed by each member (Berghman & Vloeberghs, 2003, pp. 511-22).
The employability skills for an electrician also requires problem-solving skills. I can develop innovative, practical and creative solutions by applying different strategies in solving personal and team problems. Likewise, I can effectively solve customer related problems. More so I can take initiatives to turn ideas into actions, generate several options for a given situation, being creative, and identifying new opportunities in performing my job (Koprowska, 2010, p. 41).
Self-management will assist me in enhancing the employers and customers’ satisfaction. I have personal goals and vision to achieve. I believe in taking responsibilities for my action which gives me confidence in doing new things. To keep at par with the current job requirement, I have created a system to evaluate and monitor my performance (Berghman & Vloeberghs, 2003, p. 27).
I have also invested in learning skills which focus on continuous improvement of my performance as a person. I am ready to learn in both on-off the job setting. Considering the advancement in technology, I have undertaken several IT training to perfect my IT skills. I believe in the application of IT as a management tool. Likewise, learning new IT skills ensures that I can use it to organize data and to apply the knowledge to improve performance. Continuous learning has to help me to increase my knowledge on job specification and to bridge the gap between customer needs and my current qualifications (Agha, 2001, p. 402).
I believe that I am well equipped to work as an electrician in the Electrotechnology industry.
