Moreover, it can involve news of new appointments, board meetings, rollouts, and periodical revenues. Newsletters can link the gap between workforces and management whereas providing work progress (Hartley, and Chatterton, 2015).
Another significant communication best practice is acquiring the feedback of Vivien, Jasmine, Helen, Max, and Jed. The supervisor should meet with the workforces, asking their opinion on tasks and projects. This technique permits board of director to provide the resource that helps to complete the tasks on time. Moreover, addressing the feedback of employees makes feel values and enhancing their retention. Thus, listening to opinion, ideas, and problems can enhance the workplace atmosphere and improves productivity (Moore, and Morton, 2017).
Arranging a meeting with workforces at every week may enhance the workplace communication. Glenmore Hotel should notify the workforces ahead of time regarding meeting time and venue. In developing online and offline business meeting, board of directors motivate their employees i.e. Vivien, Jasmine, Helen, Max, and Jed to share their opinion, generates presentations and gives voice suggestion. Along with this, formal meetings help to illustrate the weekly target with rationalizing the employee’s activities (Woodrow, and Guest, 2014).
Problem-solving as a group is key communication practice at the workplace. Communication at the workplace culture could be inadequate at the period of complexities and workflow issues. Hence, problem-solving as a group is significant to enhance communication in the setting of Glenmore Hotel. Board of directors can host a group meeting for putting this tip into the practices as it is beneficial for addressing issues and solves complaint and grievances (Baxter, 2017). In addition, managers should address all the different concepts of each issue and how they influence employees. Once that procedure is performing and voice of Vivien, Jasmine, Helen, Max, and Jedare heard, board of directors develop the circumstances for those issues by sourcing the ideas from all targeting participants. It is the best technique to enhance Glenmore Hotel communication immediately (Woodrown and Guest, 2014).
It is also assessed that resolving conflicts before they create issues, particularly, when employers have a large number of jobs for seniors at the workplace. Along with this, a detailed handbook can communicate their expectation directly, maintaining workforces and managers on the same page (Raza, et. al., 2017).
Analysis of the causes of the communication breakdown
Ineffective communication is considered as destructive to the morale of Vivien, Jasmine, Helen, Max, and Jed as well as expensive so whenever, communication breakdown takes place at the workplace, people on the leading position needs to react quickly for the objective of eliminating the barriers in order to enhance Glenmore Hotel performance (Goutam, 2013). Good and effective communication channels help the companies to maintain transparency at the workplace which is a great medium for building appropriate and trustworthy image amongst the employees for Glenmore Hotel. Following are some of the causes of the communication breakdown at workplace:
Communication breakdown can often be treated as the result of poor leadership or the ramifications of executing an operation without any clear mission. Thus, if board of director is unable to see a proper way to reach to the desired goals and objectives, he should ask his teammates to share their opinion to find one of the best appropriate waysin order to reach towards the desired destination (Cascio, 2000).
Communication issues mainly arise due to disengagement and low morale amongst the Vivien, Jasmine, Helen, Max, and Jed. Not matter, how effective communication mediums and Glenmore Hotel have but until and unless, those methods will not be utilised to their optimum level, transparency amongst the employees cannot be build. So, it is necessary for the Glenmore Hotel s to adopt appropriate communication channels which not only lead to develop transparency amongst the workplace but through which morale of Vivien, Jasmine, Helen, Max, and Jed could also be enhanced (Forey&Lockwood, 2010).
Another big reason for communication breakdown is interpersonal relations between the employees and interpersonal conflicts majorly occur due to workforce diversity. Thus, it is the duty of the managers to interrupt these types of conflicts in order to resolve the conflicts at the initial level only in order to eliminate the obstacles to the Glenmore Hotel performance (Suter, et. al., 2009).
It is necessary for every Glenmore Hotel to move as per the showed directions but if Glenmore Hotel is facing certain issues in the communication, these should be neglected until they are not hampering the work. It is the manager’s inefficiency of not addressing the communication issues and with regards to this, management requires taking appropriate action such as providing training to the managers for improving their communication abilities for addressing issues. Weak communication channels could also lead to decrease the morale of Vivien, Jasmine, Helen, Max, and Jed and with regards to this, Glenmore Hotel becomes incapable to move towards its desired destination with appropriate speed (Akkirman&Harris, 2005).
Building communication skills
Primary solution for overcoming with the communication breakdown is working towards communication skills at every level of the business. In relation with this, Vivien, Jasmine, Helen, Max, and Jed could be asked to give their feedbacks for developing appropriate frameworks to build communication skills amongst the employees (Lockwood, 2015). Communication is majorly utilised by the employees in order to communicate with each other as group of employee’s works on single task and for the objective of development of coordination amongst them so that the assigned tasks could be performed in an appropriate manner.
Communication is dynamic in nature as per the nature of business environment because both changes time to time. Although, business entities still use traditional methods of communication but their utilisation has been decreased in the modern business era. Digital communication channels have taken over the place of traditional communication channels as these are effective, fast as well as cost effective. With the help of digital communication channels, Glenmore Hotel could easily communicate with Vivien, Jasmine, Helen, Max, and Jed at the individual level. In order to bring improvements in the communication at workplace, following strategies could be adopted:
Setting communication standards: The best measure for improving communication at workplace is eliminating the chances for miscommunication. In order to do this, standards could be set for describing appropriate communication practices at the workplace. For examples, code of conduct with regards to the utilisation of communication channels at workplace through which employees will only use the available communication channels and that too at the limited extent. If any changes in the code of conducts and standards have been made, these should be informed to the employees prior implementing them in order to align their efforts with the Glenmore Hotel al vision in order to boost up Glenmore Hotel productivity (Miler, 2018).
Encouraging feedback and participation:This is a type of open door policy under which employees’ opinion will be taken by the management to make them feel important for the Glenmore Hotel as well as to make the appropriate utilisation of the available talent within the organisation. For encouraging employees to share their views and opinions regarding to the improvements required in existing communication channels for originating positive outcomes (Appleton, 2017).
Defining roles and responsibilities:Job roles need to be defined amongst the employees and the best measure to define their roles is communication channels. Efficiency of employees increases when they exactly knows what to do and how to do which ultimately helps in increasing Glenmore Hotel productivity. This process starts from the hiring process as employees primarily informed regarding their roles and responsibilities at that time only and with regards to this, Glenmore Hotel could easily attain its desired goals as per the expectations (Riklan, 2017).
Conclusion
In order to improvise the communication at workplace, Glenmore Hotel should adopt trending communication channels as per the business environment and for the objective of enhancing Glenmore Hotel performance. In relation to this, it has been concluded that business performance affects due to ineffective adaptation of communication channels. The report has also concluded the causes for breakdown of the communication at workplace, thus, it is necessary for Glenmore Hotel to select appropriate and relevant communication channels in order to align business functionalities as well as to enhance productivity at both individual as well as whole. The report has also concluded major challenges faced by board of director regarding such as usage of outdated communication channels used, limited reachability, traditional forms of communication channels used, etc. With regards to this, it is necessary for board of directorto implement monitoring and controlling measures for analysing the effectiveness of communication channels used at the workplace so that gaps could be identified between the expected and actual outcomes.
