The nature of the employment relationship is consistently contested within UK and international employing organisations with critical implications for work and labour management. This module therefore aims to develop your knowledge and conceptual understanding of the labour process its implications in managing the employment relationship at the macro (national Government policy), meso (industrial relations) and micro (workplace) levels. Within this context, the module will enable you to critically analyse and evaluate the roles and responsibilities of major stakeholders (e.g. Governments, employers, trade unions) in influencing the employment relationship. You will also learn about the different mechanisms (e.g. employment relations policies; industry/ organisational practices) that various stakeholders adopt in their efforts in sustaining the employment relationship and of their underpinning challenges. The module aims to explore these aspects from national and international perspectives. The module also expects you to use your initiative in evaluating different employment relations issues within the workplace. The module therefore raises awareness of the practical challenges that management experience in managing the employment relationship within contemporary workplaces. This module provides you with an introduction to the key theoretical constructs in examining the nature of the events industry. The module builds on the historical development of events and provides an overview of the key concepts which underpin events management from a variety of disciplinary perspectives. Within the programme of study a critical framework from which you base further study is developed and the promotion of an independent, active approach to learning is cultivated to encourage you to become an effective learner. This module provides you the student with the underpinning knowledge of the essential operational practices needed to support the infrastructure of the events industry.
