Reverse logistics remains to be the process that deals with the moving of various properties from their distinctive target for aim of proper disposal or attaining charge. It relates to the idea of reusing different materials together with products (Mavi, Goh, & Zarbakhshnia, 2017). Besides, reverse logistics continues to be all operations that associate with services or products after the point of sale with the primary target of making or optimizing more efficient aftermarket operations. The idea leads to saving of environmental resources as well as saving money. In some cases, reverse logistics refers to stream of excess or different unnecessary goods, substance, or different types of tools back to organization throughout organization’s chain of logistics for recycling or appropriate dumping. The process of reverse logistics consists of management along with sales of surplus together with returned machines and types of equipment from the business of hardware leasing (Yu & Solvang, 2016). In the instance of reverse logistics, resource within operation of an organization goes at least one stage back in the store network. Activities of Reverse logistics applicable to Pick n Pay
There are ranges of activities of reverse logistics that apply to pick n pay services. These activities start with unprocessed raw materials and end with the final clients that utilize the finished goods and services.  The reverse logistics activities applicable to pick n pay include the management of operations (Eskandarpour, Masehian, Soltani, & Khosrojerdi, 2014). It also provides efficient management to management of pick n pay company to make effective management along with decision making to guarantee on-time and in-full conveyances to targeted clients. The management of operations of pick n pay by reverse logistics ensures that products stay to be green to the end. Other activities applicable to pick n pay comprises of the date of surplus along with returned machines and types of equipment from the hardware leasing business. Reverse logistics offer retailer with constant perceivability over the conveyance scene (Entezaminia, Heidari, & Rahmani, 2017). Other activities that are applicable for operations of pick n pay include the strategies to refurbish, reuse, and recycle products along with raw materials that do not only benefit the surrounding, but also that saves money while resulting in increasing in company’s profits.
Activities such as reuse, repackaging or repair, recycling, reconditioning, refurbishing, and remanufacturing that are done by reverse logistics are applicable in pick n pay. Reuse activity is always applicable to pick n pay corporation in sending back different products for resale to a diverse client once the targeted customer declines to pay for it or pick it for their personal use (Mavi, Goh, & Zarbakhshnia, 2017). Besides, logistics activities of the reverse department applicable in pick n pay organization include idea of improving procedure of arranging, executing, together with controlling techniques for the proficient and successful transportation alongside capacity of products on demand. Other activities applicable to pick n pay comprise of concept of receiving that involve physical emptying of approaching transport, checking, recording of different receipts, and additionally choosing where received merchandise are to e put during time of transit (Yu & Solvang, 2016). Reverse logistics also offer value-added activities that apply to pick n pay. These activities of value-added relate to different physical activities that include labeling, assembly, and packaging among other services.
Drivers and barriers of reverse logistics practices
There are both internal and external drivers along with obstacles of reverse logistics practices. Some of the internal drivers include optimizing profitability and cost reduction goals. Besides, the primary external driver of reverse logistics is to reduce the environmental impact of an organization (Tavana, Zareinejad, Santos-Arteaga, & Kaviani, 2016). The rapid development of different activities by every growing number of industries along with uncontrolled consumption of natural resources results in ecological concern. Such concerns have remained to be the primary drivers for the practices of reverse logistics practices globally (Mavi, Goh, & Zarbakhshnia, 2017). Therefore, environmental concerns, enforced legislation, rapid shifts in the technological sector, and corporate citizenship have made reverse logistics to gain attention around the global community.
The lack of appropriate information system that includes the system that deals with enterprise resource planning or management of warehouse software along with infrastructure remain to be some of the internal barriers for reverse logistics of an organization. However, external barriers to reverse logistics include supplier non-compliance together with transportation inefficiencies. Other barriers in the process include the pressure that different organizations encounter from both the authorities as well as consumers (Govindan, Sarkis, & Palaniappan, 2013). Therefore, there is a need for the organizations to reorganize operational activities that involve the supply of raw materials, manufacturing, as well as supply within the approach friendly to environmental.
