For one real-world organisation of your choice, evaluate the influence of key internal and external environments on its strategic management. Strategic management can be described as the process of using the organisation’s internal resources to achieve the organisation’s overall purpose under prevailing external conditions. Some internal influences you might consider include the organisation’s capabilities, resources, competitive advantage, systems, structure, leadership, people, culture, configuration as well as their strategy. Some external influences you might consider include industry lifecycle, industry profitability, and competitive and cooperative relationships. You do not need to discuss all of these influences in your report, but should select the most pertinent ones for your organisation, ensuring that you select at least four theorists, of which one of the four is Porter’s five forces. In your report, you should show how the various aspects of strategic management in that organisation reflect and/or contradict a selection of theories about strategy from the literature. Your report should draw on theoretical references (that is, actual theories) to support your evaluation. Use at least four writers as theoretical references – remembering to discuss and apply at least four theorists (eg Porter’s industry profitability, Waterman et al’s 7-S framework), not just references. Your selected case must be an actual real organisation. When selecting this organisation, ensure you can access adequate information about it. This information may be gathered through various platforms including the firm’s website, newspapers and business magazines.
