Question:
Discuss about the Ethics Education in Public Relations.
Answer:
Introduction
Educators are held to highest standards due to the influence they have in the lives of the children. Amidst all these responsibilities, educators are supposed to demonstrate and uphold strong ethical behaviors as they relate to the children, this is because they serve as roles models to this children. Therefore, it is imperative for educators to follow the certified code of conduct in order to act in an ethical and professional manner. For the purpose of this paper, I will discuss on my personal code of conduct and how I will apply them in the workplace.
As an educator, it is very important for me to maintain an ethical behavior in my professional practice at all times (Spector, 2016). One of the ways I will maintain professionalism is by working towards the provision of quality education to all the students. In this case, I should am not supposed to discriminate or show favoritism against any student. In addition, I will interact appropriately with the students by not bullying, taking advantage, and putting them down in any way. Further, in order to maintain professionalism in my practice, I will limit my contact with my students outside the school or even the classroom. However, wherever such contact comes up, I should focus on events and activities that are connected to the school.
In addition, it is my professional responsibility to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all my students. As a teacher, I must abide by the school and classroom safety procedures to ensure all my students are safe. In cases of harassment and bullying, it is my ethical obligation to report such cases to the head teacher or to the board of management. Besides, if I note cases of neglect or child abuse, it is my professional responsibility to report to the responsible authority despite the student purporting otherwise. Therefore, the aim of professionalism as an ethical conduct is to ensure a provision of quality education to the children and ensuring their safety at all times (McIver, Brown, Pfeiffer, Dowda & Pate, 2016).
Qualities of an Educator
In order to be a good educator, I believe that one needs to have a passion for what they do (Neill, 2017). An educator needs to love and willingly accept the challenges that come with it. In this case, as an educator, I must work hard to ensure the children gain new knowledge, which will enable them, achieve what they want in life. For instance, there are times I see a student struggling with a subject, as a good educator, I should take my time to work with the student one on one until the student achieves. Further, I should not allow my attitude dictate the nature of relation has with my students. I love what I do- being an educator. Therefore, no matter what, I will always show the passion of being an educator shine in all my lessons (Brinkman & Carter, 2017).
In addition, as an educator, I have to be flexible. For instance, before I come to school, I have plans to accomplish. However, at times, the plans do not go as planned. As an educator, I must accept the changes that have come up and work with the interruptions in order to execute quality education to the children. In this case, I must be flexible and adaptive to changes that I face. In addition, educators need a lot of patience. In this case, I must develop the patience to work with my students in order to bring out their abilities and to grow and mature the right way. Also, as an educator, I need to be patient with the constant changes in schedules and with the parents who expect the best for their children (Bantz & Harris, 2017).
Professional Development
Educators have an ethical responsibility to develop themselves professionally (Watson, 2016). Having this in mind, it is my responsibility as an educator to maintain top ethical behaviors in the course of my practice (Sethi, 2016). In this case, I should truthfully maintain and present licenses, certificates, and other academic qualifications to my employer. Application for teaching as an educator with false or fake certificates in order to meet the requirements is not acceptable, in addition to my academic qualification; I am supposed to put into practice my professional codes of conduct when handling assessments and when reporting grades. In this case, I am not supposed to alter or misrepresent children grades as it can lead to criminal charges, which will result in loss of the job.
In addition, it is my professional responsibility to work with the administration, my colleagues, and other employees in order to provide a safe learning environment for the students. Also, is should be willing to follow the rules and directions of the administration even if the rules appear unreasonable to avoid undermining the authority in order to set a good example to the students. In cases where disagreements arise, it is professional for us to solve the issues in private and cease badmouthing my colleagues in front of the children, as it will lead to a development of a bad attitude towards that particular teacher (Bear, Yang, Mantz & Harris, 2017).
Conclusion
Professional code of conduct for educators is very important s they guide us in the education sphere. Other than providing knowledge, we have a responsibility of bringing up a fresh generation. In this case, I should carry myself around in a manner that complies with the society norms like politeness, tolerance, and respect. In order o achieve this objective; it is vital for me to apply the codes of conducts in my day-to-day activities in school. Thus, as an educator, I have the responsibility to ensure the safety of the students by adhering to the school and classroom safety. Also, to provide the children with top quality education, it is of the essence that I further my studies so that I will be in a position to meet the changing trends in education. Therefore, as an educator, I must operate under the guidelines of the code of conducts I order to ensure I bring up a morally upright generation.
