Discuss about the Emotion Regulation and Psychopathology System.
Answer:
Introduction:
Reduced interest and enthusiasm in her day to day activities including schooling, studying, socializing with her friends, she is heedless and ignorant when it comes to managing her asthmatic condition (Spielman, Dumper, Jenkins, Lacombe, Lovett & Perlmutter, 2014). She does not perform her home chores. This reduced interest has escalated her being lazy that all she does is to watch television all-day, she nowadays does not participate in sporting activities or exercise like earlier on. Alcohol consumption has greatly influenced this strange behaviour in her. Her true friends have deserted her such that she only talks with her other buddies whom she goes out with especially to drink alcohol. Alcohol leaves her in a major hangover that greatly affects her ability to undertake the part-time job that she is even warned of being sacked.
She has developed this impulsive attitude that is very transient when talking to different people in her life making her seem rude to her elders including parents, her GP and even her teachers and fellow students. She is easily irritated and angered and seems so ignorant when being counseled. She seems not to understand what she is being told. This tendency to drink gained her two friends who become her influencer (Allen & Sheeber, 2012). She is easily influenced by her peers in what she does and thus is quick to defend them when they are mentioned.
Rob is quick to clear Lauren that her alleged fear of having glandular infections by conducting a few test results. He is helpful as he is able to handler the patient quit comfortably. Despite her insisting that she is sick. Rob also invited Laurens parents so they can also get to understand her problem and know how to solve it maximum. While the family members argue, he is able to interrupt them and control their insults and bring the agenda home without making Lauren feeling out of place (Myers & DeWall, 2015). Rob encourages Laurel to exercise and participate in a sporting activity to lighten her whole body to enable a reduction in much fatigue and hangovers. This is also to enable regulate the hormonal changes in Lauren’s body. He encourages her to do that for some few minutes so she does not overwork herself.
Rob is very ready to issue the guiding pamphlets to Lauren to encourage them to continue with the therapeutic exercise on her own so as to improve better (Van Dijk, 2011). Rob is very tolerant of Lauren rude attitude because he needs to help her thus tries to understand the root cause of her feeling that way. Rob is very encouraging and tries to reason with Lauren telling her that having a part-time job while being at school is a nice thing and asking her to soldier on. Rob is very concerned that due to her attitude, the medial ligament she developed six months ago might recur and cause further damage to her. So he recommends just a few minutes of exercise for gaining momentum.
Rob appears to have the best intentions in helping Lauren to stop drinking but some of his actions are overshadowed by the various statements that he makes during their conversations. To begin with, Rob seems to be very aggressive during their first conversation which is between the two. Asking many questions which are addressing the negative issue that Lauren is experiencing. Insisting to know the daily schedule that Lauren has over the week greatly affect the mentality of Lauren as this brings out the idea that she is becoming quite exposed (Bosacki, 2016). Secondly, if Rob brought fun stories before insisting on the current events that Lauren is involved, the results would be more positive than they are in the current situation. Actions always speak louder than words. Getting things done such as going to have fun together rather than promising to do it some other time would help in Lauren being involved in many other activities hence reducing the drinking of alcohol mentality.
Rob becomes extremely shocked after hearing that Lauren and three of her friends managed to drink a cask of wine. This expression results in making the conversation formal and the follow-up results makes the Lauren feel guilty, left alone and hence she becomes desperate this may end up triggering alcoholism (Kuhn, Perlis & Aloia, 2011). Rob should at least agree with Lauren in some of the actions that she is involved in. This helps to make a person feel valued and the activities that the person loves and cares for valued. Disagreeing strictly with the activities of the person makes leads to desperation which influences negative behaviours.
Rob fails to focus on what Lauren can do to better her chances of becoming non-alcoholic and highlights the activities that Lauren fail to involve herself in. In this case, these phrases are helpless to Lauren as what has passed cannot be mend. Rob should not force Lauren to involve her self in activities that she does not want. These activities involve reading the pamphlets and should focus on other methods to make her engage in exercises. Rob emphasizes to Lauren to record the amount that she drinks. This is helpless to her as this will end up making her drink more alcohol even without the plans to consume alcohol.
Rob insists that the reason behind Lauren behaviours is due to the feeling that she is not active enough. Such statements bring out negative attitude to the affected may result to low esteem (Myers & DeWall, 2014). Rob’s actions reveal that he knows everything that Lauren is experiencing. This should not be the case, He should listen to Lauren’s feelings and perception of situations rather concluding that lifestyle is the factor leading to her suffering. Rob brings out the issues that they had communicated in their previous conversation and they had agreed that it was among the two of them. This leaves Lauren in a situation where she can’t trust him.
Ensuring that previous conversation do not rise during the current is crucial will have a great positive impact in making the sure that the patient trusts him (Little, Sillence & Joinson, 2016). Avoiding blaming Lauren will her to think of what she can do in the future rather than focusing on her mistake. Rob should find better and encouraging means to use while correcting Lauren in order to make her feel wanted and then she can value her body. Forcing her to engage in sporting activities does not help and does not solve the matter appropriately until Lauren changes her attitude. Assumption by Rob results to negativity. If Rob intends to help solve the challenges that Lauren is experiencing he should be there to listen rather than assume the problems that she is experiencing (Essau, Leblanc & Ollendick, 2017). Rob’s presence is supposed to help Lauren recover and thus he should not be strict to Lauren’s behavior. Rob is expected to befriend Lauren and help her solve the issues.
Cognitive –behavioral therapy for alcohol and drug use disorder. The first step will have to accept that Lauren has the problem in lifestyle and alcoholism and requires assistance. This becomes the first crucial step I solving the challenges that she is going through. The mind then adapts to the new methods of utilizing free time and this results in positive results. Problem-solving; Rob can engage Lauren in the problem-solving method where an addict is involved in solving various solutions that assist in keeping her busy during free time (Ciccarelli & White, 2017). Understanding that all difficulties can be solved dynamically and during the process of recovering. Rob has the role to play as a motivator to Lauren that she has the potential to recover her life style and good behavior.
