Question:

Annotated Bibliography I
Research question:What problems do young people today face compared to older generations?
Part 1
Read your chosen source carefully.
Take notes as you read, highlight important parts, and re-read sections that are especially important or challenging. Become familiar with each author’s point of view, and the ideas upon which the author is building an argument.  As you read, consider:

What ideas does the author represent or support?  How/why?
Who does the author contend or disagree with?  How/why?
Most importantly, what ideas are discussed in the source that you could apply to your own research?( related to research question!)

Part 2
Create a Work Cited entry for your source (in an annotated bib., these go at the top of the page instead of the bottom before you write about each source).  Figure out what kind of source it is, and then use OWL MLA to help you cite it.
Part 3
Compose an annotated entry for your source in paragraph form.

First give some background information on your source:

What kind of source (medium/genre) is it?
Where is it from (publication)?
When was it published?
Who is the author and what information does the text provide about them?

Then sum up the source’s key ideas in your own words and describe the author’s positions as they relate to your topic (refer to the notes you took in Part 1 above).

Answer:

Research question: What problems young people face in the present age as compared to older generations?
Part 1
Greatergood.berkeley.edu. “How Teens Today Are Different From Past Generations.” Greater Good. N.p., 2018. Web. 19 June 2018.
The author has presented the view that the young generation today is very self-centred that makes it difficult for the young people to assimilate with the society. The young people of the present age are very confident and they do not want to listen to the opinion of other people which makes it difficult for them to sometimes take crucial decisions. The idea that has been presented by the author is that the life of the teenagers of the present age is influenced to a great extent by that of income inequality which demoralizes hopes pertaining to the future.
The author disagrees with the point of view that the young generation of the present age is immoral and states that the emerging adults are not aware of any kind of moral reasoning outside themselves. The factor of morality along with immorality differs for every individual and the young people being called immoral is only a fact of personal opinion. The author has contradicted the life history theory that states that inequality in income gives rise to the problems that the young generation face in the present age.
The author has presented the opinion that the ideas of the young people emanate from that of “moral individualism” and from their personal belief system. The author has brought out the fact that everyone is entitled to their own moral views in the society and the questioning the viewpoint of other people cannot be called right.

This article has been published by Diana Divecha in the year 2017. The authenticity of the article can be attributed on account of the fact that Diana Divecha is a Ph. d scholar and research affiliate at that of Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. This article furnishes important information regarding the problems encountered by the young people in the present age. The author has presented the view that young people want to stake claim in the new society and their concern is not solely related to making their ends meet. The article suggests that older people have very specific needs whereas the needs of the young people are more varied. The young people of the present age are not going wayward but devoting more amount of time in the field of full-time learning. The author has said that “The mental health consequences are especially acute for younger teens, she writes. This makes sense developmentally, since the onset of puberty triggers a cascade of changes in the brain that make teens more emotional and more sensitive to their social world”. This suggests the fact that the teenagers have to suffer from mental conflict on account of the onset of puberty which makes it difficult for the young people to adjust to their social world.
The author Diana Divecha has argued that young people of the present age have been shaped by the social along with political event of the present age. The lives of the young people in the present age are influenced by mobile technology and social media. The information that is provided by the author relates to the fact that young people of the current age find it difficult to distinguish between the good and the bad practice. The older people are more matured and they do not have to face any kind of conundrum. The new media is making the teenagers of the present age lonely and depressed. The article discusses how social media is undermining the social skills of the young people in the society.
The teenagers in the modern age spend less amount of time with that of their friends and online content provides the impetus for that of unrealistic expectations. The article has pointed out how the girls are more vulnerable as they tend to use social media more than that of the boys. The article has suggested that the girls become victims of cyberbullying and social media in the present age is creating “epidemic of anguish”. The young people of the present age face a lot of pressures in the arena of education which actually paves the path for teen pregnancy along with alcohol misuse. The huge amount of pressure that the young people face forces them to have psychotic breakdowns along with financial pressure. The older generation do not have to face these kind of problems like the young people. The young people suffer from panic attacks on account of the tremendous pressure at school and in the social life. The young people in this age have to behave like a robot so that they can adjust themselves in the ever-evolving environment. The author has said that, “Society challenges teens and parents to improve; but can society take on the tough responsibility of making decisions with teens’ well-being in mind?” The author has tried to show that society wants to bring about improvements in the teenagers but the society should make crucial decisions keeping in mind the well-being of the teenagers.
