Question:
Discuss About The Dialectical Tensions Management Strategies.
Answer:
Introduction
The family members reserve the right to be present if they choose to during the resuscitation of a loved one in the acute care setting. Not only is it their biological and constitutional right to access their loved one but it is also politically correct for them to be present and to witness the entire medical process. The confidentiality of patient information is one of the major concerns for the Health Insurance and Accountability Act (HIPAA). It is unethical for the nurse to reveal any of the patient information regarding the patient regardless of the fact that they are friends with the nurse. The nurse should instead try to contact the doctor on behalf of the patient and her friend. The doctor directly concerned with the patient would be of more help to the nurse’s friend than the nurse would. Nurses are bound by the code of ethics of nurses to remain discreet about patient information.
The life of the patient is fundamental to the family. The Health Insurance and Accountability Act works to protect individuals’ personal records together with other personal patient information that patients would like to keep confidential (Boyle, 2017). HIPAA gives patients more control over their health information. The Act sets the boundaries of the use and control of the patient information. Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health, (HITECH), Act is meant to stimulate the acceptance of the Electronic Health Records and other Acts that support technology in the Australia (Gilstrap & White, 2015). Through this Act, patients in the country can receive the protection of their electronic information. The Act is used as an assurance that hospitals accept the health standards that incorporate the use of new technology.
Allowing the patient’s loved ones gives the nurse an opportunity to contribute to the health and well-being of the patient and the patient a chance to heal. The Australian Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a 16% increase in the number of registered nurses by 2024. Nursing students will need to adjust accordingly to meet the new needs of the nursing industry. For a nurse who has a friend whose mother is hospitalized, it can be tempting to want to give out the patient information. Regardless of the intentions of the action, the nurse ought to remain discreet about patient information.
Proper medical ethics promotes accountability and transparency in all sectors. The future of nursing requires that new nurses be holders of a baccalaureate degree for effective and efficient delivery of nursing services (Kissane-Lee et al., 2016). A baccalaureate degree is essential because nurses need training in nursing ethics to become competent in issues of nursing ethics. According to the nurse’s individual vision for 2020, the nurses association envisions nurses with a degree qualification by the same time for improved quality and performance in the nursing sector. Nurses must be trained in computer informatics to be able to deliver the best possible care to patients on all levels. The nurses association of the country envisions a country in which more than 80% of the population of nurse becomes competent and well versed with the various nursing theories. Nurses must not only have an affinity to the theories but they must also know ways of applying them and making changes to them in line with the development of academic practice. Medical resuscitation is an area in nursing that requires extensive research and knowledge on the part of the nurse as the primary care attendant. Besides the role of the nurses as the primary care attendants, the family of the patient has great say in determining the health of the patient during times of need.
The cost of health care is high in the Australia compared to other parts of the world. There are however, mechanisms and legislations instituted to assist patients to meet their needs for health care. Such tools are the Universal care and the Electronic Health Records, which ensure not only affordable but also high quality health care (Gilstrap & White, 2015). Universal care has been funding the Medicare Shared Savings Programs beginning 2012. The program was developed to encourage the development of Accountable Care Organizations. An Accountable Care Organization is an entity formed by providers of health care. An ACO is a body that agrees to take care of the total costs of care for a population of patients. Universal care contains many provisions that directly target how health care is conducted (Dinah, 2015). Universal care takes into account the shortcomings of the Australian Health Care system. Electronic Health Records are used to reduce medical errors by improving the accuracy in medical diagnosis. When medical practitioners have access to patient information, they have greater capacity to administer proper treatment and care (Gilstrap & White, 2015). An Electronic Health Record not only provides patient health information and allergies but it also informs the clinician of any possible problems whenever a new medication is prescribed.
Massive innovation funded by the Affordable Care Act plays a vital role in ensuring that health care management is kept in check. The National Quality Measures can be accessed and utilized in the Electronic Health Records (Kissane-Lee et al., 2016). Acquiring baccalaureate degree will make it easier to enroll and complete a degree Doctorate Degree in Nursing (Gilstrap & White, 2015). Continuing education is a process in which professionals keep up with the latest advancements in healthcare and knowledge (Gilstrap & White, 2015). A baccalaureate degree educated nurse brings an in-depth and comprehensive training in the nursing arena.
Overall, families deserve to be present during the process of resuscitation of their loved ones. No law in the medical practice of Australia forbids such action and therefore denying them the chance to see their loved ones is inhuman. Better knowledge means better practices and better outcomes. Increasing my level of education will tremendously affect my roles as a registered nursing practitioner. Affordable Care Act relies on technology to enhance performance. Combination of the Electronic Health Records and the Affordable Care Act legislation is meant to ensure patients access quality health care in good time. Nurses anticipate more responsibilities, hence more industrial experience, and more salary. Australia has an opportunity to transform its health care system, and nurses should play a vital role in driving the change. When all is said and done, nursing ethics do not forbid the presence of loved ones in the course of resuscitation so long as they do not interfere with the nursing process. Family members must therefore be allowed to provide moral support and motivation to their loved ones in the event of life threatening medical processes like resuscitation.
