Case Study No. 2 provides students the opportunity to apply the concepts learned and more deeply research and analyse a selected Case Study examining the firm’s market environment from a strategic management perspective and in this assessment the turnaround of the LA Philharmonic Orchestra. This scenario may illustrate the practical importance and implications of leadership, adaptability, effective strategic execution, and cultural entrepreneurship. This analytical exercise will improve students’ understanding and ability to think critically about the business and its future direction, to better able to understand and analyse real business problems and strategies.
●    Students will answer all CASE STUDY QUESTIONS (see below) in relation to the LA Philharmonic Orchestra: Cultural Entrepreneurship (Harvard Case Study). Further, students will participate in a Case Study Workshop in Week 6 in relation to this case study and then required to demonstrate an analysis of the case issues based on the directions below (see table below).
●    Case Study 2 The Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra: Cultural Entrepreneurship.
●    1. What is the place of arts and culture in today’s society? How does Deborah Borda address these issues through cultural entrepreneurship?
●    2. How should Deborah Borda think about the balance of audience engagement and community engagement?
●    3. What are the most appropriate performance metrics for the LA Philharmonic Orchestra that Borda should use and why
●    Apply and demonstrate understanding of relevant business concepts and frameworks in answering the case study questions.
●    Identify & evaluate key elements in the current business strategy and current market conditions.
●    Identify 1-2 key strategic issues facing the business, with an explanation.
●    Analyse the industry dynamics in which the selected company is competing.
●    Analyse the market and the company’s cultural market position going forward.
●    Justify key recommendations to sustain competitive advantage (with supporting argument and application of theoretical frameworks).
