In a perfect world, our technology would be highly secure, very reliable, solidly resilient, and of top quality. However, in the real world, we have to recognize not only that we have limited resources, but also that sometimes goals can be in conflict.
 
In this discussion, we are going to explore these topics and how we balance demands. As you are thinking and talking about this area, you should explore ways that these topics might be in conflict, for example, what is the conflict between resilience and efficiency?
 
During this exploration, you should start noticing and talking about how different types of applications might have different needs, for example, how do you determine the need for reliability or security in a home thermostat versus a diabetes monitor. Keep in mind that in the real world, you not only have to determine the appropriate balance, you have to recognize other’s priorities and address them, and ultimately you must articulate your case effectively.
 
Just as we’ve been working with the framework in previous modules, looking at the system and the stakeholders, then recognizing the stakeholders’ interests, etc., you should do the same here. However, you should take it a step further and try to find a structure that helps you analyze the demands in conflict and articulate your findings.
