The main assignment for this course is a crisis communication plan. The communication plan should be written about a real life case study of your choice which has not been part of the sessions of the course. Participants provide the case from their home country, and during the course make an inventory of possible issues that has caused the crisis for the organisation. What are the main stakeholders, what are possible journalistic angles in stories on this possible crisis and what should be the strategy of the organisation? What are the responses that should be given? 3 To what extent do cultural differences play a role? The paper ends with a general advice on which steps the organisation must take to recover from the crisis, prevent a reoccurrence and build their reputation in the years ahead. Assessment criteria: ? Detailed analysis of the organisation in the case study, its activities, image/reputation and corporate communications; ? Analysis of issues that could be of relevance for the organisation in the future and could lead to a crisis. Assessment (on the basis of clear criteria) of which of these issues are most important; ? Analysis of these three issues: a clear definition, relevant stakeholders, possible angles in the media, the risks involved, the possible measures to be taken and relevant cultural issues; ? Recommendations on the strategy of the organisation at the moment, in order to prevent these crises from reoccurring Procedure: ? The course can be successfully completed with a final paper. The mark for this paper should be at least 5.5. There is a resit for all papers that receive a lower grade. ? The deadline for the paper will be announced during the third meeting of the course. Papers that are handed in after the deadline count as a resit. Papers should be handed in by email and on paper to the office; ? The maximum amount of words for this paper is 2500. This amount does not include the reference list and appendices. Papers that exceed the maximum amount of words will be given back for correction. The new version counts as a resit. ?
