Part 1: Choosing your topic Your topic of interest can be anything related to biology, but ideally it should be narrow enough that you can explore it within 3 weeks. For example do not choose “cancer” as that is too broad. Many diseases/conditions are appropriate, but please do not choose behavioral or psychological conditions (for ex. alcoholism, drug addiction, autism, schizophrenia). While they often have genetic and environmental factors involved, they are outside the scope of this class. Consider topics of interest in your daily life (exercise, marine life, nature, wildlife, nutrition, gardening) or in the news (probiotics, CRISPR, superbugs, coronavirus etc.). If in doubt, email me! Instructions Please post by clicking Respond to this topic and writing in the subject line the title of your topic. No duplications, please! If you are repeating somebody else’s topic, you’ll have to change it (first come first serve) Tell us briefly about the topic in biology you intend to work on in this course and why you chose it. Write at least 250 but no more than 500 words (you’ll write more in detail next week). Attach one picture or diagram related to your topic. Cite one peer reviewed reference (can be a reputable website, or a scientific magazine). Part 2: Peer response Comment on 2 other students’ postings, giving them advice or feedback on their topic choice. Comments should be thoughtful and address specific aspects of the posting, “great post” or “good job” is not sufficient.
