Teaching methods/strategies:
• A problem-based learning approach will be used, emphasising
a holistic approach, active learning and the integration of
professional and ethical values with skills and knowledge.
• Learning problems will reflect practice and professional
contexts and draw on real or realistic projects.

and/or e-learning.
Learning Outcomes: 1) Understanding of building science principles relevant to
utility, health, comfort and well-being considerations of
occupants in buildings (lighting, acoustics, thermal
performance, indoor air quality, sick building syndrome)
2) Understanding of ergonomics, physiological responses and
human movement issues in relation to the built environment
3) Understanding of the issues associated with access for
people with disabilities and the principles of universal design
4) Understanding of building performance measurement and
evaluation at design and post-occupancy stages
5) Ability to conceptualise and evaluate total building
performance as design and operational functions
