TASK: “Critically assess the prospects of achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, with specific reference to the role of corporations and the private sector”.  Students will be provided with a marking grid and terms of requirements for the essay, with an emphasis on: An answer that is clearly focussed on the question, and answers it clearly. A clear report structure with a beginning (introduction), a middle (insightful and informative analysis) and an end (conclusion) with clear recommendations on what practically to do next. Evidence of research related to the question, from multiple sources (articles, the Economist, UN website). References to sources of information in the report where relevant, giving page numbers as well. A bibliography at the end with clear referencing on sources/ authors (see library guide to citations). f ) Discussed two or three goals deeply. Please submit and electronic version to Turnitin and a hard copy to the programmes office by 12.00 noon on 1st April, 2017.  Guidance Introduction: background to the SDG’s including purpose, aims, and why. Set out the contribution of private sector in achieving aims using academic references and/or reports. Discussion: discuss in details the goals and outline evidence to assess whether or not they have been achieved. Discuss barriers and challenges as well as support mechanisms for SDG’s. You must also analyse and critically evaluate the role of business in SDG achievement and offer some examples where the business community has helped to support or hinder the achievement of SDG’s.Assess different attitudes of business to the goals. Conclusions: summarise key points made and finish with a balanced assessment of the prospects for achieving goals by 2030 based on the supporting evidence you have provided.
