Demonstrate communication skills which will assist in professional presentations Seminar Guide to Planning your Seminar Make sure that you spend an adequate amount of time in planning your seminar. The best way to begin is to create a template to ensure consistency among your slides. You should also consider your audience, their technical/educational level, the amount of time allotted to your presentation, language skills, organizations, mastery of the subject, overall impression and the complexity of the subject matter. Sketching out the flow of the presentation in story board fashion is generally helpful in deciding what to include or exclude. It may also help you decide what type of visual effects is appropriate, and where to place them. Seminar Instructions 1. Your in-class seminar should be based on any one of the topics given below. 2. Your Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation must be uploaded through Turnitin by the due date. 3. You will be expected to deliver a polished and concise overview of the topic in the allotted 15 minute time frame. 4. You will have 3 minutes of questions and answers session following your presentation. 5. Your Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation should generally follow the outline of your paper and should include a brief introduction that provides the audience with a frame of reference, a main body of the presentation and a strong conclusion. 6. Your goal is to engage the audience effectively and to get your message across. 7. Your slides should help to clarify your ideas, emphasize important points, show relationships, and to provide the visual information your audience needs to understand your message. 8. Keep your visuals clear and simple. 9. Vary the size of lettering to emphasize headings and subheadings 10. On the day of your presentation, make sure to arrive at least 15 minutes before class, so that your presentation can be loaded onto the classroom computer.
