Background Leadership is a reflective practice. The purpose of this assignment is for you to reflect on your leadership skills, identify a focus area to work on, and commit to a path of continuous improvement. Instructions This assignment includes three sections that addresses concepts covered in the text. You are also encouraged to explore other sources and draw on your own personal experiences and observations. Remember to cite your sources using proper APA format. Section 1: What Kind of Leader Am I? Complete the self-assessments below to get an idea of your preferred leadership style(s). Exercise 3-4 What is Your Leadership Style? (pp. 46-47) Exercise 4-1 Leadership Assessment (pp. 60-61) Exercise 15-3 The Big Five Personality Test (p. 362) Summarize your results and understandings from each self-assessment. What did you learn about yourself? What strength(s), area(s) for improvement, opportunities, and challenges did you identify? Conclude with a short description of your personal leadership style and how effective it has been for you to date. Provide an example to support your explanation, e.g., your role in a group project at school, as a member of a team at work, a community event, family function, etc. Section 2: How Would You Develop Your Leadership Skills, and Why? This course covers theories and concepts related to leadership and intercultural management. Think about your own career goals for the next five years. a) Discuss what kind of leader you would like to become in the future and explain why you believe these skills and/or qualities would enhance your career prospects. b) In your own words, describe three of the qualities you feel are most important for a great leader in your chosen career area. Explain why. Section 3: Professional Learning and Development Plan A professional learning and development plan includes the leadership or career competencies that you wish to improve upon. Reflect on your challenges and goals and complete a professional learning and development plan for one challenge or goal. This challenge or goal could be something you’ve identified when completing the self-assessments or an area of focus selected from the Key Leadership Competencies defined by Canada’s Public Service leaders. Complete My Professional Learning and Development Plan (below). Grading Your responses and professional learning and development plan will be assessed according to the Grading criteria (below).
