BSBWHS401 Implement and monitor WHS Policies Procedures And Programs To Meet Legislative Requirement

As a supervisor in the workplace you will be required to train staff about legislation, regulations, policies and procedures related to work health and safety (WHS).  Sometimes this might be in an informal setting, say at a toolbox meeting, or sometimes in a more formal setting, say in a staff training room.  In any case this is an important part of your job, and no matter the setting you need to give your full attention to such training. Lives may depend on it.
Listed below are the steps required for this assessment.  You must research, plan and deliver a 5-minute talk to your workgroup.  This task will be due in Week 5.  You need to submit a recording of your talk, and it should be recorded in front a group of at least 4 team members, who should be prepared to ask questions.  If you wish you can make arrangements to do your talk in the Collaborate online classroom, a Microsoft Teams meeting, a Zoom meeting or other meeting software in front of other class members.  You will need a minimum of 4 group members, and then submit the recording with your assessment below.  The Meeting software you choose will need to have the ability to record your meeting.
Once you have decided how you will present your training session:

Identify a hazard relevant to an item in the list below to research and conduct a WHS talk about with your workgroup i.e. you are the supervisor advising your staff of the hazard and or issue.

Hazardous substances in the workplace and how to identify them
What is a near miss
Manual handling
Getting to the root cause of a safety problem (The 5 ‘Whys’)
First aid requirements in the workplace
The hierarchy of control and its application in your workplace
A hazard of your own choice, checked with and approved by your lecturer

Conduct research into the hazard. You need to sound like an expert when delivering the information in your talk, so the more information you know, the more authoritative you will sound.
Identify relevant legislation, regulations and organisational policies and procedures that apply to the hazard and its treatment.
Deliver a 5- minute presentation to your work group on the hazard, including:
identify specific examples or cases of the hazard
use photos/printouts to explain the hazard

Causes of the hazard
Effects of the hazard
Control methods for the hazard (using the hierarchy of control)
organisational policies and procedures relating to the hazard, including:

OHS policy, addressing hazard identification
risk management policy
risk management procedure

The importance of consultation in identifying and treating hazards in the workplace
An explanation of the relevant provisions of the legislation (such as work health safety legislation), regulations or codes of practice that may apply to the hazard
How you plan to follow up to consult again on hazard and treatment
A description of where workgroup members can access information about the hazard.
A copy of the marking guide for your presentation has been attached above. Make sure you include all elements identified in the key in your presentation.
Each aspect of Question 4 must be clearly written about, and every aspect of the relevant legislation, code of practice and policy MUST be included.
