BMA314 Organisational Change & Development
Question
Answered
Task Description:
You are required to write a report detailing a change management strategy (intervention) for one of 3 Case Studies as provided in the Attachment to this document or an alternative case as approved by the Unit Coordinator. The purpose of the Case Study is to demonstrate your understanding of theory and research on organisational change/development and their application to a specific context.
Please note the due date has been amended to Monday 22 May, 2017 to give you a full four weeks to complete the report.
The criteria in these Guidelines vary from the material contained in the Unit Outline for the following reasons:
• The case studies provided in the textbook are quite long and don’t clearly identify a range of issues that facilitates analysis and writing of a case study report; and,
• Given the scope of the Group Presentation/Individual Report, the Case Study report covers the elements of design and implementation of a change strategy/intervention once a diagnosis has been done.
There are 3 Case Studies (available in a separate document in MyLO) and you choose one (1) for your Case Study report: The choices are:
1. The Last Resort (Hospitality & Tourism)
2. University of Hard Knocks (Higher Education)
3. Unhealthy General Hospital (Health Services)
Each of the Case Studies are fictional (not based on any individual organisations) and I have written them specifically for this Assessment.
The requirement is to put yourself in the role of an ‘internal change agent’ (as described by the Case Study) and prepare a report for the CEO (or equivalent) designed to have your proposed change strategy approved and implemented.
In your report provide:
1. After a brief Introduction, from the diagnosis included in the Case Study, provide an in-depth and clear analysis of the problems and opportunities that are relevant to a change strategy. You are required to utilise at least two (2) change management models/frameworks to support your analysis; (8 marks)
Please note that although the Case Studies are only 2 pages long, they include a substantial number of problems and opportunities. Some of these are outside the points provided in the ‘diagnosis’ provided. You may choose to limit the number of areas covered in your analysis provide you clearly explain the reasons for your choice;
2. A justification for a change strategy (including a communication strategy) that will address the problems and opportunities identified. (8 marks)
The change strategy is essential a project plan for developing and implementing a change intervention that covers the areas identified in criterion #1.
3. An analysis of the issues and barriers you may face in implementing your intervention and how you will address them (including relevant aspects of resistance to change by various levels in the organisation); (8 marks)
4. An analysis of the ethical issues implied from the Case Study and that your intervention may create and how they could be effectively addressed. This criterion includes an outline of how the change intervention could be evaluated and a brief conclusion. (8 marks)
